The cathode ray tube occupies most of the interior of the monitor housing. Made of glass, the tube is under vacuum. Electron guns at the back of the tube serve as a ~cathode~ which emits a beam of electrons. This beam is focused and directed to the phosphor display screen at the front to illuminate individual pixels. An ~anode~ is attached to the bottom front of the tube to draw extra electrons out of the system.
